Kamal Siddiqi quits Express Tribune to focus on work at CEJ
Kamal Siddiqi has stepped down from his role as Editor of The Express Tribune to dedicate his efforts to the Center for Excellence in Journalism. He played a crucial role in the newspaper's development over the past seven years.

ISLAMABAD – Kamal Siddiqi, Editor of The Express Tribune has resigned from his position to focus on his new job at the Center for Excellence in Journalism (CEJ).

A JournalismPakistan.com source says he is likely to be replaced by Fahd Hussain, the current Director News at Express News Television. Naveed Hussain, a Senior News Editor has been given the acting charge of the paper for now.

Siddiqi, joined the Institute of Business Administration as Director of the CEJ in Karachi last April but also continued to run the paper. He is credited with taking the newspaper from infancy in 2010 to a position where it’s rated as one of the top newspapers in Pakistan today.

“With a heavy heart I have to inform you that I am stepping down as the Editor of The Express Tribune so that I can devote my time and energies to education and research. It has been an honour and a privilege to work alongside all of you on this amazing journey of seven years,” he wrote in an email to staff, and which was made available to JournalismPakistan.com.

He recalled with fondness the times spent with the staff producing high quality content. “Together we launched and built a newspaper we can all be very proud of. I will always cherish the memories of the times we spent producing high quality journalism at The Express Tribune. Your support has been my strength and for that I remain grateful,” Siddiqui wrote.

He also thanked the management for giving him the opportunity to lead a “prestigious organization”.

During his career Siddiqi has had stints at The News as editor for four years, Dawn, Dow Jones News Wire and Asia Times in various editorial positions. He also teaches journalism at the University of Karachi.
