Amanpour named UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Freedom of Expression
Christiane Amanpour has officially been named a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, focusing on freedom of expression and journalist safety. This honor was conferred during a ceremony in Paris, highlighting her commitment to promoting free media and human rights.

The United Nations agency mandated to promote and protect press freedom worldwide has named renowned journalist and CNN Chief International Correspondent Christiane Amanpour its Goodwill Ambassador for Freedom of Expression and Journalist Safety.

 

The UN said on its website http://www.un.org/ Ms. Amanpour received the honor during a ceremony at UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) headquarters in Paris.

 

UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova praised Ms. Amanpour for “her efforts to promote free, independent and pluralistic media, having the right to work free from the threat of violence, and contributing through this to peace, sustainability, poverty eradication and human rights.”
