RAWALPINDI – Anjum Muneer Raja, 40, a sub-editor with daily Qaumi Pukar, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Thursday night.
According to reports, Raja was heading home from work on his motorbike when he was attacked. The gunmen shot him six times in the neck, torso, and head. He died on the spot.
The incident occurred on Bank Road in the jurisdiction of Civil Lines Police Station.
Pakistan Today quoted Civil Lines DSP Kazim Naqvi as saying the gunmen fled the scene after murdering the journalist, leaving behind six bullet casings fired from a 9mm pistol. The manner in which the murder was carried out indicated that it was an incident of targeted killing.
The body of the victim was handed over to the relatives after a postmortem.
The paper said the police have asked the General Headquarters for footage from CCTV cameras. The police official said initial evidence suggested the murder was the result of personal enmity.
Police have registered an FIR on a complaint by the victim’s maternal uncle, Tariq Mehmood.
