Spotlight on migrant workers: Join the ILO's Global Media Competition
The ILO has launched its tenth Global Media Competition aimed at promoting fair media coverage of migrant labor issues. The competition recognizes the role of journalists in reshaping narratives to support migrants.

The International Labour Organization (ILO) is excited to announce the launch of the tenth edition of its annual Global Media Competition. This initiative seeks to recognize fair and balanced media coverage regarding labor migration, which is crucial in countering the negative and stereotypical narratives that often contribute to discrimination and abusive practices against migrant workers.

Open to both professional and student journalists, the competition will be evaluated by a distinguished panel of experts in international migration, forced labor, and journalism. Entries will be judged based on a comprehensive set of criteria, including creativity, accuracy, balance, and the positive representation of the diverse aspects of migrant workers’ lives.

For a decade, the Global Media Competition has acknowledged the vital role journalists play in shaping narratives around labor migration, underscoring the contributions of migrant workers while also addressing the persistent risks of forced labor and exploitation. Gladys Cisneros, Chief of the ILO Labour Migration Branch and one of the judges, emphasizes this importance.

In celebration of both the tenth anniversary of the Global Media Competition and the 2014 Protocol to the Forced Labour Convention, an additional special prize will be awarded to one winner for exemplary reporting on forced labor and human trafficking.
