Javed Khan, the bureau chief for Urdu language newspaper Daily Ausaf was shot and killed by unknown assailants on February 25.
According to Dawn, Khan was getting into his car when the unidentified shooters opened fire, gravely wounding him. He died en route to hospital. Police are investigating the incident.
Khan was a former correspondent for Dawn in Mingora, Swat, and was the brother of prominent Al-Jazeera journalist Hameedullah Khan.
Reports state Khan as being the 14th member of the Hameedullah family to be murdered in the past five years. He is the second murdered journalist in Pakistan this year, following the murder of Aziz Memon who was found dead in an irrigation waterway in Mehrabpur in Sindh ten days ago.
The IFJ and its affiliate, the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) are investigating the killing.—IFJ
