Independent Urdu has officially launched, marking a new venture in Urdu-language journalism. The site aims to engage a broader readership with professional content.

ISLAMABAD – The Saudi Research and Marketing Group (SRMG) has launched the website www.independenturdu.com.

According to a media release, it will be run under a licensing agreement with the British publisher of The Independent.

The editor-in-chief of the website is Baker Atyani. Some other experienced journalists are also on board, including Haroon Rashid, a former editor of BBCUrdu in Pakistan.

Abdulrahman Alrowaita, Chairman of SRMG, said: “The launch of independenturdu.com stands as the third phase of our multilingual project with The Independent. We are so eager to attract a wider readership of Urdu language to read a diversified, but highly professional content.”
