The Journalist Fellowship Programme at the Reuters Institute stands as one of the premier opportunities for mid-career journalists worldwide. This distinguished initiative allows practicing journalists to step away from their daily responsibilities and delve deeply into the evolving world of journalism. Most fellows are fully funded, with a stipend provided to cover living and travel expenses.

A Transformative Experience

Through personal research, engaging seminars, networking events, and peer discussions, participants gain a nuanced understanding of journalism, the news industry, and their role within it. Based in Oxford, fellows undertake impactful projects that enhance their careers, contribute to their newsrooms, and benefit the broader media landscape. This program is specifically designed for working journalists and editors who will return to their professions enriched with new insights.

Global Diversity and Unique Opportunities

Fellowship Details

Fellowships span three to six months, starting in October, January, or April, and are aligned with Oxford’s term dates. Fellows are expected to remain in Oxford during term time but may travel briefly without missing scheduled events.

Funding and Support: Most fellows receive full funding, covering program fees and providing a monthly stipend of £2,000 to cover accommodation, food, and living expenses. Travel and visa costs are also included. Fellows are advised to refrain from professional work during the program.

Sponsorship Options: Some fellows are supported by sponsoring organizations with separate application and selection processes. Contact the institute for more details on alternative funding sources.
