Still no compensation for slain Atif's family
The Mohmand Press Club has scheduled a meeting to discuss compensation delays for journalist Mukrram Khan Atif's family. Attendees criticized the government for inadequate journalist protection.

PESHAWAR: The Mohmand Press Club (MPC) has convened a general body meeting to discuss delay in payment of compensation to the family of journalist Mukrram Khan Atif, killed at the start of the year by the Taliban. The meeting is due to take place on June 25. On Sunday the members of the press club held a separate meeting and lamented the delay in payment of compensation announced by the government. Executive members of the Tribal Union of Journalists and cabinet members of MPC attended the meeting which was chaired by Shakirullah Mohmand. Those present, threatened to hold a series of protests if compensation was not immediately released. The also decided to organize a condolence reference in memory of Atif. They criticized the political administration and the provincial government for not providing security to journalists working in hard areas. Taliban militants gunned down Atif on January 17 in the Shabqadar area of district Charsadda. He was a correspondent of Dunya TV and also worked for Dewa Radio, a Pashto language radio channel of the Voice of America. The banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the murder.
