Daily Times duo attempts self-immolation
Employees of Daily Times attempted self-immolation over unpaid salaries, but were stopped by colleagues. This incident led to a brief strike by angry staff.

ISLAMABAD: Frustrated over prolonged salary delays, two employees of Daily Times, Islamabad attempted self immolation Monday, reports said.

The incident occurred during work hours but timely intervention by colleagues thwarted their plans. The staff members requested the two involved in the act not be named. Angry staffers later went on a brief strike.

Delays in paying off staff salaries are common at Daily Times which is also known for not having paid dues and other emoluments to many employees it sacked, or those who left of their own accord, some years ago.

However, a group of former employees in Islamabad who went to court got paid what was owed to them.

The Daily Times belongs to the Media Times Group that also publishes Urdu language Daily Aaj Kal and runs the Business PlusTV channel.
