Sackings at Dunya Media Group
Dunya Media Group has enacted significant layoffs affecting 70 employees of Dunya News Television. This decision has faced backlash from journalist unions calling for reinstatement of the staff.

LAHORE — The Dunya Media Group has reportedly laid off 70 employees belonging to Dunya News Television.

The job cuts are perhaps the biggest by any news organization in Pakistan in the last one year.

Many other media houses also laid off staff earlier, reducing wages, and in some instances even shutting down their news outlets.

The sackings at Dunya drew condemnation from journalist bodies with calls to reverse the decision and have all the sacked employees back on the job.

In a resolution they demanded the government ban advertisements to media houses that kick out employees.

The journalist union leaders formed a committee to chalk out their course of action.
