PFUJ concerned over conviction of Nasrullah Chaudhry

ISLAMABAD — Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has expressed deep concern over the conviction of journalist Nasrullah Chaudhry, who has been sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment and a fine by an anti-terrorism court.
In a joint statement, PFUJ said the sentence to Chaudhry, a senior journalist, raises questions about the crime and justice system in the country.
The PFUJ called for a fair trial of Chaudhry and expressed the hope that justice would be dispensed to him in the appellant court.
"We demand fair and rapid justice for Chaudhry," Shahzada Zulfiqar, president PFUJ said.
The journalist community sees the court verdict in the backdrop of the ongoing plight and suppression of the journalists in the country, aimed at curbing the free voice and media freedom.
"This is our resolve that we will never let go of our freedom granted to us by our constitution,” Nasir Zaidi, secretary-general of PFUJ said.
