Minister hands over wage board notification to PFUJ leaders
Maryam Aurangzeb delivered the eighth wage board notification to PFUJ leaders, celebrating a long struggle for journalist welfare. PFUJ emphasized ongoing demands needing attention.

ISLAMABAD – Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb on Wednesday handed over the notification for the eighth wage board to the leaders of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) at the National Press Club.

The minister said that it was the result of a 16-year struggle by journalists. She praised the efforts of the unions in this regard who fought for the economic welfare of the media persons.

Ms. Aurangzeb said she has been successful as a minister because of her great relationship with the journalist community.

President PFUJ, Afzal Butt said it was a day of celebration for media workers throughout Pakistan. He appreciated the efforts of the minister.

PFUJ Secretary-General Ayub Jan Sarhandi said that constituting the eight wage board was a significant success for the media fraternity. However, he reminded the minister that two other demands were still to be met.

The minister responded by saying the government was running out of time and that the summary is sent to her so that it could be passed on to the Parliament.

Besides the wage board, the journalists are demanding legislation for workers of electronic media and an end to contract system in the industry.
