Journalist Sohail Khan's alleged murderer arrested
Humayun Iqbal has been arrested for the murder of journalist Sohail Khan near the Chaman Border. This arrest comes after Khan was shot shortly after leaving the DPO's office.

ISLAMABAD – Humayun Iqbal, the alleged murderer of journalist Sohail Khan has been arrested near the Chaman Border in Balochistan.

District Police Officer (DPO) Haripur, Mansoor Aman disclosed this at a news conference on Wednesday.

He said that the alleged killer was attempting to escape to Afghanistan from the Chaman Border when police made the arrest. He was traced through his mobile phone.

The arrest comes exactly eight days after the reporter was gunned down in Haripur shortly after leaving the DPO’s office. He was shot at several times and died on the spot.

He was at the DPO office to apply for protection after receiving multiple death threats following his report on the arrest of a drug smuggler, who reportedly was his relative.

The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) earlier on Tuesday gave a one-week deadline to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police to catch Sohail’s murderers.

Sohail, 30, worked for a local newspaper K-2 Times.
