Journalist Shehryar Warraich completes master's degree in security, terrorism, and insurgency

LAHORE - Pakistani journalist Shehryar Warraich has successfully completed his master’s degree in security, terrorism, and insurgency from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom.

He becomes the first journalist in Pakistan to earn a qualification in this discipline that is of more relevance to Pakistan than any other country in the region or arguably all over the world.

The topic of his final thesis was “How can the process of De-radicalisation be effective?”

‘De-radicalisation of terrorists’, ‘The rise of Taliban since 2002’, ‘Hezbollah: from Islamic resistance to Government’, ‘Afghan Civil War’, ‘Disengagement and de-radicalization’, and ‘Middle-East politics’ were his prime research topics during his degree.

Warraich is associated with the Pakistani media since 2004 and remained part of Geo News for most of his career. He was a correspondent at Geo News before leaving to pursue his degree in 2016 under a Chevening scholarship program.

During his career, Warraich has reported on security, social issues, human rights, minorities’ disputes, politics, and culture.

Apart from Geo News, Shehryar has worked with UPI (United Press International), The News, PTV, ATV, APNA News, Truth Tracker, and BOL TV.
He was a fellow of ICFJ and US State Department in 2012 and worked with OPB (Oregon Public Broadcast) during the fellowship.
