Fawad praises Daily Times and Express Tribune for covering telethon
Fawad Chaudhry commended Daily Times for its coverage of Imran Khan's telethon, which raised Rs 5 billion for flood relief. He later acknowledged Express Tribune's contribution as well.

ISLAMABAD—Fawad Chaudhry, a former information minister, said on Twitter Tuesday that Daily Times was the only paper that prominently covered PTI Chairman Imran Khan's telethon.

"@dailytimespak is the only Newspaper that Covered Historical fundraiser by ҁ¦@ImranKhanPTI others preferred to save their real businesses and stayed away," he tweeted.

The telethon to collect funds for flood relief saw pledges of Rs5 billion. Fawad attached an image of the Daily Times front page that said 'Rs 5 billion collected.'

However, Fawad, perhaps realizing that The Express Tribune had also covered the fund-raiser, took to Twitter again: "Also must thank @etribune for sharing the burden despite all odds," he said.

Earlier, the Islamabad High Court had suspended a ban by regulator PEMRA on airing Khan's live speeches. It paved the way for the telethon to go ahead.

However, only BOL News telecast the telethon despite the ban being lifted; other channels paid no attention to the PTI chairman's remarkable fund-raising effort.

KEY POINTS:

  • Fawad Chaudhry applauded Daily Times for prominent coverage.
  • The telethon raised Rs 5 billion for flood relief.
  • Only BOL News aired the telethon despite regulatory barriers.
  • Chaudhry's tweets highlighted media's selective coverage.
  • Islamabad High Court lifted the ban on Khan's live speeches.
