Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar has taken notice of media advertisements funded by Punjab, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments. He expressed concern regarding the use of taxpayer money for self-promotion, questioning its implications for fair elections.

ISLAMABAD – Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Wednesday took a suo-motu notice of advertisements awarded to media houses by the Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments.

The court ordered the information secretaries of the respective provinces to submit details of advertisements released to the print and electronic media and how many were given to each media house.

The chief justice was quoted as saying that taxpayers’ money was being used for self-promotion and asked does this not mean pre-poll rigging.
