Chief Justice orders The News, Jang to publish clarification for running 'fake news'

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Tuesday ordered The News and Jang to publish a clarification following fake news attributed to the top judge was run by the papers.

The story that claimed the CPJ wanted Shahbaz Sharif to be the next prime minister appeared in the two papers on Monday.

Justice Nisar ordered the newspapers to publish a clarification explaining why they had not run the correction.

Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman, the Jang Group boss, did not appear in court although he was told to be present Tuesday.

Geo TV Journalist Qayyum Siddiqui, representing Mir Shakil told the court its orders were conveyed to his boss but he had no idea why no correction was published.

“The media group must publish a clarification [explaining why a correction was not published] just like they published the original story,” Pakistan Today quoted the CJP said and warned that if the group failed to publish a correction, he would order Sindh and Punjab’s inspectors general of police to produce the owner in court.
