Regulator files appeal against court decision suspending ban on BOL program
PEMRA has officially challenged the Sindh High Court's ruling that suspended the ban on Dr. Aamir Liaquat's show. The ban was initially placed due to hate speech allegations.

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Monday filed an appeal against the decision of the Sindh High Court to suspend the ban on Dr. Aamir Liaquat Hussain and his program Aisay Nahi Chalay Ga on BOL News.

On January 26, the regulator announced slapping an immediate ban on the show and its host for preaching hate following hundreds of viewers’ complaints.

However, the court overturned that decision the following day that left PEMRA seemingly embarrassed.

BOL News defied the ban and went ahead to air the show the very day the ban was imposed. PEMRA later issued a show cause notice to the channel for violating the ban.

KEY POINTS:

  • PEMRA filed an appeal against the court's decision.
  • The ban was imposed on January 26 for preaching hate.
  • BOL News aired the show despite the ban.
  • The court's decision left PEMRA embarrassed.
  • A show cause notice was issued to BOL News for violation.
