PTV owes artists and writers millions

ISLAMABAD: Over the last 15 years Pakistan Television (PTV) owes artists and writers money running into millions, the information minister informed the Senate last week.

This information was placed before the House during the question hour.

Senator Chaudhry Tanvir Khan asked the names of performing artists, music artists and writers who worked in PTV during the last 15 years but were not paid, and also the outstanding amount due to each individual.

Minister of State for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb told that the house the five centers of PTV owe artists who worked for it over the last 15 years a little over Rs48 million. PTV Lahore owes the most – Rs44.1 million while PTV Home Islamabad owes Rs3.1 million.

Then amount due to music artists is just over Rs8 million. More than half of this amount – Rs4.8 million - has not been paid by PTV Karachi. Overall PTV owes writers over Rs2.1 million.

The names of actors, singers, and writers whose dues are outstanding are now available at the Senate library.
