'Who will be responsible if my sons are harmed?' mother pleads in court
Amina Bashir, the mother of journalist Ahmad Noorani, broke down in court while seeking justice for her abducted sons. The Islamabad High Court has summoned the Inspector General of police to oversee the investigation.

ISLAMABAD—The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered the Inspector General (IG) of Islamabad police to appear personally on March 26 in connection with the alleged abduction of journalist Ahmad Noorani’s brothers.

Justice Inam Amin Minhas presided over the hearing of a petition filed by Noorani’s mother, Amina Bashir, who broke down in tears while pleading for her sons' safe recovery. Advocate Imaan Mazari represented the family in court.

Amina emotionally questioned whether the court would take responsibility if any harm came to her sons. The family claims that Noorani’s two brothers—both engineers—were forcibly taken from their Islamabad residence by unidentified personnel from intelligence agencies in the early hours of Tuesday.

Noorani, a journalist based in the United States, alleged on social media that his family was targeted due to his investigative reporting. However, the involvement of intelligence agencies remains unverified.

During the hearing, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Thana Noon submitted a report stating that police had conducted geofencing, analyzed call records, and reviewed CCTV footage but found no conclusive leads. Justice Minhas criticized the lack of progress and directed the IG Islamabad to personally supervise the investigation.

Advocate Mazari argued that the police had failed to register a formal case despite five days passing since the abduction. Justice Minhas, however, clarified that the priority was recovery, not litigation, and adjourned the hearing until March 26.
