Vehicle with 'senator' number plate impounded on journalist's complaint

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Police have impounded a vehicle bearing an illegal registration number 'Senator-RV-333' following a complaint lodged by senior journalist Mariana Baabar (pictured).

The News reported Thursday that Ms Mariana was prompted to complain after almost being run over by the vehicle while driving to Islamabad on the Expressway last week.

The journalist wrote to Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani informing him about the incident. This led to the Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan directing the police to impound the vehicle and investigate the matter.

Initial investigations revealed the driver of the vehicle was a bank officer using an illegal number plate of his relative who is a senator. Legal action has been ordered against the offending driver.
