LAHORE – The Punjab Union of Journalists has condemned the dismissal of about 150 employees by City 42 Television.
The union President Ziaullah Khan Niazi said that there were reports of notices given to another 75 staff members.
He said that although the channel’s management claims the layoffs were because of financial crunch, its sister organization 24 News hired an anchor for a monthly salary of Rs2 million.
He said it was a pity that Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and a member of the Electronic Media Reporters Association (EMRA) connived with the management and assured them there would be no protests over the wholesale layoffs.
Niazi claimed that the laid-off workers were a witness to this ‘deal’.
