UNESCO condemns murder of journalist Sohail Khan
UNESCO's Director-General has condemned the murder of journalist Sohail Khan, calling for accountability in Pakistan. This incident raises concerns over press freedom.

The Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, has called on the authorities of Pakistan to ensure that those responsible for the killing of journalist Sohail Khan are brought to justice.

“I condemn the killing of Sohail Khan,” said the Director-General. “I trust the authorities will spare no effort in investigating this crime, which undermines the fundamental human right of freedom of expression as well as the right to access information.”

Ms Azoulay added that “a free press plays an essential role in combating organized crime and upholding the rule of law.”

Sohail Khan, a reporter for Daily K2 Times, which also operates a local television channel, was gunned down on 16 October in Haripur.
