PTI leader takes legal action against Dawn
PTI leader Taimur Jhagra has issued a legal notice against Dawn and columnist Khurrum Hussain over false allegations. He refutes claims that he undermined Pakistan's financial commitments to the IMF.

ISLAMABAD—PTI leader Taimur Jhagra has issued a legal notice to Dawn and columnist Khurrum Hussain over an article claiming he wrote a letter to the IMF’s resident representative to undermine Pakistan’s financial commitments.

In his February 13 article, Khurrum Hussain alleged that Jhagra wrote a letter stating his province would not adhere to the fiscal surplus limits set by the IMF program. Jhagra refuted the claim on X (formerly Twitter), stating that a brief review of the letter would reveal the allegation as false.

Expressing disappointment, Jhagra said, “I respect Dawn for maintaining higher editorial standards than many other journals, which is why I am particularly surprised they allowed such a statement to pass editorial checks and be published as fact.”

The legal notice asserts that the article “falsely and maliciously alleges” Jhagra’s involvement in undermining Pakistan’s financial commitments, calling the claims “categorically false, misleading, and defamatory.”
