LAHORE: Election preparations at the Lahore Press Club are in full swing and so are the disputes among rival groups. The latest was witnessed on Thursday when nomination papers of Mayed Ali got rejected.

A Chief Reporter at The News, Mayed planned to contest for president's seat against Arshad Ansari. The ground of rejection was that he had submitted his membership after the deadline set for this purpose.

Mayed and his supporters dismissed this logic terming it a tactic employed by the incumbent to enjoy another year in power.

Mayed is asking for a written rejection statement so that he can avail legal options. The election committee has sought time until 1 pm Friday.

The elections will be held on December 25.
