Politics main topic in TV talks shows: survey

ISLAMABAD: Politics was the main topic of discussion in TV talk shows in December 2014 and the ruling PMLN was the political party with the most airtime representation.
A monthly research study conducted by Gallup Pakistan Media Research Consultancy shows that issues related to politics took 45 percent of the airtime in the seven talk shows analyzed by it.
The ruling party had the most airtime, 35 percent, followed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, 23 percent, while only 8 percent of the guests invited to the talk shows were women.
The talk shows analyzed by the Gallup include Off the Record, Capital Talk, Meray Mutabiq, Sawal Yeh Hai, News Eye, Aapas Ki Baat and Tonight with Jasmeen.
The topics discussed on these shows were divided into seven broad categories: economy, governance, law, politics, media, security and miscellaneous. Issues like sports and socio-cultural subjects were included in the miscellaneous category.
The report says that around 95 percent of the talk shows remained engaged in discussing politics of PTI and PMLN on rigging allegations and judicial commission.
