ISLAMABAD—The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has slammed the brutal murder of Nasarullah Gadani, a journalist from Ghotki, Sindh.
In a statement issued on Friday, PFUJ President Afzal Butt, Secretary General Arshad Nasari, and Finance Secretary Lala Assad Pathan said it is becoming increasingly difficult for journalists to perform their duties, and those who do so are eliminated like Gadani.
The three leaders of PFUJ noted that it was not the first murder of a journalist in Sindh. "A number of other media persons were also eliminated over the years, and no culprit was arrested."
Butt, Ansari, and Pathan claimed that the failure of the government to protect media persons and arrest criminals has created a sense of impunity among those who want to target journalists.
The PFUJ leaders demanded that the government immediately arrest those who perpetrated this heinous crime. They also demanded that the government pay compensation to the family of the slain media person's family.
The leaders paid rich tributes to Gadani. "Nasarullah Gadani was a brave and dedicated journalist who fearlessly reported on the truth, even in the face of danger."
PFUJ leadership said that his murder is a stark reminder of the risks journalists face in Pakistan and the need for greater protection and security for media professionals.
