ISLAMABAD—Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has called for a countrywide protest on Thursday (Oct 22) against continued lay-offs, delays in wage payment, and implementation of the 8th wage board award, and increased censorship and press advice.
PFUJ President Shahzada Zulfiqar and Secretary-General Nasir Zaidi said this is high time for launching protests and voicing demands.
They said massive retrenchments of journalists and workers besides 6 to 15 months of wage delays could not be ignored.
“Owners are avoiding the implementation of the wage board award, which shows disrespect towards the journalist community. Therefore, the entire media community and journalist bodies must forge unity amongst their ranks while preparing for the strike in support of our demands,” the union leaders said.
