PESHAWAR – A Joint Action Committee of Khyber Union of Journalist (KhUJ) and Peshawar Press Club has decided to move court following wholesale layoffs and non-payment of dues to workers by media houses.
The committee has also announced continuing its protest camp, which is on for the past two weeks.
Faizan Hussain, representing the KhUJ said that they had spoken to their lawyers and legal formalities were being finalized.
The union has asked all media workers laid off until November 11 to submit their details of terminations to the legal committee at the press club for the compilation of data.
Hussain pointed out that the media owners had continued to layoff employees despite a Supreme Court order not to do so. He termed it contempt of court and appealed to the chief justice to take notice.
