PEMRA has rejected BOL News' assertion of innocence regarding false reporting on a bomb blast in Lahore. The channel has been issued a show cause notice for its misleading coverage.Summary
ISLAMABAD – Electronic media regulator PEMRA Friday dismissed as untrue BOL News claims it was not among channels that aired false news about a bomb blast in Lahore’s Gulberg neighborhood.
“BOL News is among 29 channels that were served show cause notices for airing the fake news,” the regulator said, pointing out the channel ran wrong tickers at 1:14pm Thursday about the incident that never happened.
PEMRA said that instead of accepting its mistake and apologizing, BOL had made baseless comments about a state institution which reflects journalistic and professional dishonesty.
The authority warned the channel to refrain from making untrue comments and run its transmission in conformity with rules and regulations.
Like other blundering channels that ran the false news, BOL has been given until March 2 to explain its position.
