PEMRA directed to 'control' TV programs maligning courts
The Accountability Court in Lahore has instructed PEMRA to control media broadcasts that unjustly malign the judiciary. A ban on personal interactions during court proceedings has also been imposed.

ISLAMABAD — The Accountability Court, Lahore has directed chairman of electronic media regulator PEMRA to “control” television programs maligning the courts without any basis.

The watchdog quoting the court order said: “It has been reported that without legal acumen the politicians and the media persons are involved maligning the court on private television channels without any basis and pass comments maligning the courts for their political motives.”

The court warns the channels that in case of violation of its orders, the proceedings (u/s 16-B of NAO) would be initiated against the erring individuals and media persons.

A ban has been imposed on taking selfies, giving interviews, and video calls during the proceedings of the inquiry No. 1(9) HQ/2023/NAB-L dated 14-11-2018 before the court.

PEMRA said that the channels are required to ensure compliance with the court’s orders in letter and spirit.
