ISLAMABAD – Electronic media watchdog PEMRA has served a show cause notice on Channel 24 for airing an audio clip purportedly of passengers screaming on board PIA flight PK661 minutes before it crashed Wednesday near Abbottabad.
PEMRA said it had received complaints from viewers over the channel’s callousness in airing the audio and demanded action.
The channel is required to furnish proof the audio clip was from the passenger cabin of the ill-fated plane.
PEMRA said if at all the audio was from the same plane, the channel must explain who recorded it and how it obtained the recording.
The channel has been given until December 15 to respond to the notice and explain why its license not be cancelled or a fine of Rs1 million imposed.
