NA adopts resolution against anchor persons

ISLAMABAD: The 13th sitting of the National Assembly’s session Wednesday adopted a resolution demanding action against anchorpersons telecasting programs against parliamentarians without verification of facts.

According to a Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) factsheet, the resolution was moved by Sheikh Waqas Akram (PMLQ), Minister for Education and Training; Syed Naveed Qamar (PPPP), Minister for Defence; Wasim Akhtar (MQM); Abdul Qadir Baloch, Lt. Gen (Retd) (PMLN); and Ms. Bushra Gohar (ANP).

Interestingly the movers belong to major political parties in the National Assembly.

The resolution reads: “All anchorpersons who are telecasting programs against parliamentarians and other entities without verification of the facts for some personal agendas or for some ulterior motives or for some unlawful gains or such anchorpersons who have been exposed for their non-professional conduct, this House strongly condemns such anchorpersons and demand from the owners of the media houses to expel them forthwith besides other due actions.”

The sitting witnessed low attendance of Members as only 35 were present at the outset while 45 were there at the adjournment.
