Journalist Charles Glass barred from visiting Imran Khan
Charles Glass was barred from meeting Imran Khan in Adiala Jail. Glass, a prominent journalist, believes Khan should not be imprisoned.

ISLAMABAD—Charles Glass, a renowned broadcaster, journalist, and writer, has been denied permission to meet the incarcerated former Prime Minister Imran Khan at Adiala Jail.

"I am here as a friend of Imran Khan, and not as a lawyer or an activist," Glass told the YouTube channel Khaleej News. Expressing his belief that the former prime minister should not be behind bars, Glass hoped for Imran Khan's imminent release.

Journalist Ihtesham ul Haq posted on X, stating, "American-British author, journalist, broadcaster, and publisher Charles Glass has been refused permission to meet Imran Khan at Adiala Jail."

In May this year, in an article for World Press Freedom Day, Glass argued for the release of Julian Assange and Imran Khan, asserting that both were imprisoned for defying the United States. Notably, Assange was freed on June 25, 2024, from the UK's high-security Belmarsh prison after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to obtain and disclose classified US national defense documents.

Glass began his journalistic career in 1973 at the ABC News Beirut bureau and has since built a distinguished career in broadcasting, journalism, and writing.

KEY POINTS:

  • Charles Glass denied access to Imran Khan at Adiala Jail.
  • Glass advocates for Khan's release, viewing him as unjustly imprisoned.
  • Glass previously wrote in support of Julian Assange's release.
  • Glass has a long career in journalism starting from 1973.
  • Imran Khan remains a controversial figure in Pakistan's political landscape.
