ISLAMABAD: Najma Sadeque, prominent journalist and human rights activist, passed away Thursday in Karachi after a brief illness, Dawn reported Friday. She was 72.
The paper said the journalist remained associated with different news organizations including Dawn Group’s eveninger The Star and The News.
“Of late Ms Sadeque was suffering from kidney failure and her condition worsened due to a viral infection and chest congestion,” the paper reported.
Being a human rights activist, she founded Shirkat Gah and the Women’s Action Forum to raise voice for the rights of the oppressed.
Sadeque also contributed articles to different news organizations as a freelancer. Her areas of interest included human rights, environment and gender issues.
Dawn said she was currently editing the English translation of the Holy Quran done by her own mother Dr Syeda Fatima Sadeque, a double Ph.D, along with all her routine work.
