James B. Steele Fellowship offers full support for aspiring business journalists

The James B. Steele Fellowship in Investigative Business Journalism, sponsored by the Reynolds Center for Business Journalism, aims to shape the next generation of investigative business journalists. This one-year fellowship offers a unique opportunity for early-career journalists, providing tuition-free master’s studies at Arizona State University’s Cronkite School of Journalism, hands-on experience with expert editors, and a funded internship in major media organizations.

Fellows engage deeply in reporting that highlights corporate influence on public life. The program focuses on essential areas such as corporate accountability, the impact of business on daily life, and public access to trustworthy economic information. Candidates complete rigorous coursework, including investigative journalism and data analysis, preparing them to deliver nuanced and informed business news to the public.

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree and be accepted into either the MAIJ or MMC programs at the Cronkite School. The fellowship requires a 20-hour weekly commitment with the Reynolds Center and includes a stipend, health coverage, and a summer internship.

Application Deadlines: Early applications are due December 1, 2024. Final deadline January 1, 2025.
