Jago Panel condemns violence at National Press Club
The Jago Panel has condemned the recent violence against journalist Anwar Raza. They emphasize the need for journalists to unite and resist threats to press freedom.

ISLAMABAD—The attack on Anwar Raza, a senior journalist and president of the National Press Club, during a protest Thursday appears to be a conspiracy to lock up the press club, Jago Panel said in a press release.

"Jago urges senior journalists to intervene immediately in such situations and urge the protesters and the leaders of the Journalist Panel to be patient," Matiullah Jan (pictured), prominent journalist leading the panel, stated in a tweet.

The release said that the individual who slapped Anwar Raza could be seen in a video clip, and strict disciplinary action should be taken against him.

Some government officials, according to Jago, want to have the press club closed down and divide the journalistic community by using journalistic groups, the release pointed out. It emphasized that all journalists must understand and resist this conspiracy.

"Jago Group would play its positive role in this regard," it concluded.
