NOWSHERA—Daily Aaj journalist Malik Hassan Zaib was shot dead in Nowshera's Akbarpura area, where unidentified motorcycle assailants opened fire, resulting in his immediate death. His body was transported to the hospital, according to District Police Officer (DPO) Azhar Khan.
The Khyber Union of Journalists (KhUJ) condemned the murder. KhUJ President Nasir Hussain expressed deep concern, noting that this was the third journalist killing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa within two months. He called on Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and the Inspector General (IG) of the Police to take swift action and ensure the immediate arrest of the culprits.
The Peshawar Press Club also voiced its condemnation and sorrow over the incident. Club President Arshad Aziz Malik contacted the IG of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Akhtar Hayat Gandapur, who assured that the killers would be apprehended soon. The IG has requested an initial report from the DPO of Nowshera and promised to keep the press club informed about the progress of the investigation.
Jang newspaper reported that the KhUJ and Peshawar Press Club have urged the authorities to prioritize the safety and protection of journalists in the region, highlighting the increasing dangers faced by media professionals.
