ISLAMABAD—For the first time in Pakistan’s history, the proceedings were shown live on Monday, as a full court bench headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa took up the challenges to the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Act 2023.
Five cameras have been placed in the courtroom No. 1 of the Supreme Court. The decision to broadcast the proceedings of the case was taken on Sunday.
At the start of the proceedings, Chief Justice Isa said it was decided to broadcast the proceedings live as a pilot project.
The Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Act 2023 gives the power of taking suo moto to a three-member committee of judges, instead of the Chief Justice. However, in April 2023, an eight-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by former Chief Justice Ata Umar Bandial, stayed the implementation of the law.
