Geo honors reporters slain for telling the story

ISLAMABAD—On World Press Freedom Day, Geo News released a promo to mark the day, paying tribute to all reporters and media workers who had fallen in the line of duty.

The theme for this year's World Press Freedom Day is "Journalism without Fear or Favour" with sub-themes discussing the safety of journalists and all the media workers.

Geo mentioned a report released by Freedom Network (FN) ahead of the World Press Freedom Day, expressing concern over the escalating climate of intimidation and harassment affecting the freedom of expression and access to information in the country.

Geo named 65 reporters and paid tribute to all those who laid their lives to uphold the sanctity of this profession.

United Nations General Assembly declared May 3 as World Press Freedom Day in 1991 to raise awareness about freedom of the press and to remind governments of their duty to respect the right of freedom of expression.
