FEC to discuss major issues

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Executive Council of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists  (PFUJ) is to meet at the National Press Club from Thursday (December 4).

The three-day meeting will deliberate upon killings of journalists, non-implementation of Wage  Award,  and labour and industrial laws in various media houses, says a Press release issued by Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ).

Senior advocate and former President Supreme Court Bar Association Senator Aitzaz Ahsan and Minister for Commerce, Khurram Dastagir will brief the FEC delegates on different aspects of constitutional coverage of a law which must provide safety and protection to working journalists and media workers.

Later, Amir Jamaat-i-Islami Siraj Ul Haq will listen to the participants on problems being faced by journalists and newspapers workers.

On Dec 5, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rasheed will speak on the media-government relations while the following day, FEC will deliberate upon retrenchment of workers, non-payment of salaries, and non-implementation of wage and labour laws in the print and electronic media and take a clear stand on these issues.

Later in the evening journalists will light candles in memory of their colleagues killed because of their work
