ISLAMABAD—Dunya News TV has reportedly fired three camera operators over salary issues.
The three—Raja Yasir, Muhammad Javed, and Tanveer Ahmed—were sacked because they demanded a raise.
A JournalismPakistan.com source familiar with the development reports that these three camera operators were asked to submit an unconditional apology for raising the salary issue. However, they refused to apologize, stating they only stood up for their rights.
“Instead of taking action and resolving the issue, the channel’s director of news and other top officials fired the trio,” the source said.
The incident has sparked outrage among the journalistic community, with several media organizations and unions condemning Dunya News TV's actions. Colleagues of those fired have expressed their solidarity, emphasizing that fair wages and the right to raise concerns about salary issues are fundamental rights of all employees.
This incident has also highlighted the broader issue of labor rights and working conditions in the media industry in Pakistan. Many journalists and media workers face low wages, job insecurity, and lack of proper benefits, which has led to growing discontent and calls for reform.
The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has announced plans to protest against the unjust firing of the cameramen and to demand better working conditions for media workers nationwide. They have urged Dunya News TV to reinstate the fired employees and address the salary issues fairly and transparently.
