Court restrains paper from using 'Sama' title
The Islamabad High Court restrained a local newspaper from using the title Sama, saying it was apparently causing losses to Samaa TV. Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui sought the newspaper’s reply by the first week of June and adjourned the hearing.

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court has restrained the owner of a local newspaper from using the title Sama, which the judge said was apparently causing losses to its namesake television channel Samaa. Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui sought a reply from the newspaper by the first week of June and adjourned the hearing. Samaa was born in 2007 long before the newspaper arrived, which many people initially thought had been brought out by the TV channel.

KEY POINTS:

  • IHC barred a local newspaper from using the title Sama.
  • The court observed the title was apparently causing losses to Samaa TV.
  • Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui asked the newspaper to submit its reply by early June.
  • The hearing was adjourned after the court issued the restraint order.
  • Samaa TV began operations in 2007, before the newspaper was launched.
