Court orders release of ARY News head Ammad Yousaf

KARACHI—Ammad Yousaf, head of the news department, ARY News, has been released after a court order.

A Malir court on Thursday set Yousaf free of sedition and other charges filed against him.

He was arrested a day earlier from his residence in DHA and produced before the court Thursday. He was brought in an armored vehicle and not allowed to meet his lawyers and family members.

While talking to the media after the decision, Yousaf said he was thankful to everyone who supported ARY News in this difficult time.

A day earlier, Yousuf’s lawyer Naeem Qureshi requested the court to withdraw a first information report (FIR) against his client. “We will apply for bail if the court does not withdraw the FIR,” he said.

According to the lawyer, the FIR against ARY News head in Karachi was illegal. “The FIR registered in Memon Goth police station is against the court decisions,” he pointed out.
