ISLAMABAD—Pakistan's newest entrant in the English-language broadcast space, AsiaOne News, has officially gone on air, with its headquarters based in Karachi. This comes amid renewed efforts to revive interest in English-language journalism in a media landscape long dominated by Urdu channels.
Mansoor Waheed Malik, a senior executive associated with the project, shared the development on LinkedIn, writing: "We planned it, executed it, and launched AsiaOne News — all in just one month! Grateful to everyone who helped turn this dream into reality. AsiaOne sets a new benchmark, opening doors for global collaboration in English news."
The channel's promotional reel prominently features a diverse lineup of presenters, all of them foreign nationals, primarily from Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The channel's news operations are being headed by Naveed Qamar, who has been appointed as Director of News.
AsiaOne News enters the market at a time when Pakistan’s history with English-language TV channels is far from encouraging. Several earlier ventures, including Geo English, Express 24/7, and DawnNews (in its original English format), were eventually shut down due to limited audience engagement and the overwhelming dominance of Urdu-language broadcasters.
However, signs of revival have recently emerged. In addition to AsiaOne’s launch, there are indications that Pakistan Television (PTV) may soon roll out its own English-language news channel.
AsiaOne appears to be positioning itself for international reach and digital collaboration, banking on foreign talent and a fresh branding strategy. Whether it can succeed where others faltered remains to be seen.
اسلام آباد— پاکستان کا نیا انگلش لینگویج ٹی وی چینل ایشیا ون نیوز باقاعدہ طور پر نشر ہونا شروع ہو گیا ہے۔ چینل کا ہیڈ آفس کراچی میں قائم ہے۔ یہ کوشش ایک ایسے وقت میں سامنے آئی ہے جب پاکستانی میڈیا پر اردو زبان کے چینلز کا غلبہ رہا ہے اور انگریزی صحافت کو زندہ کرنے کی کوششیں دوبارہ زور پکڑ رہی ہیں۔
منصوبے سے وابستہ ایک سینئر ایگزیکٹو منصور وحید ملک نے لنکڈ ان پر اس خبر کا اعلان کرتے ہوئے لکھا:
"ہم نے اس کی منصوبہ بندی کی، اسے عملی جامہ پہنایا، اور صرف ایک ماہ میں ایشیا ون نیوز لانچ کر دیا! ان تمام لوگوں کا شکر گزار ہوں جنہوں نے اس خواب کو حقیقت بنانے میں مدد کی۔ ایشیا ون ایک نیا معیار قائم کر رہا ہے، جو انگریزی خبروں میں عالمی تعاون کے دروازے کھولتا ہے۔"
چینل کے پرومو میں متعدد اینکرز نظر آتے ہیں، جو تمام کے تمام غیر ملکی ہیں، زیادہ تر یورپ، مشرق وسطیٰ، اور افریقہ سے تعلق رکھتے ہیں۔ نیوز ڈائریکٹر کی حیثیت سے نوید قمر اس منصوبے کی سربراہی کر رہے ہیں۔
ایشیا ون نیوز ایسے وقت میں میدان میں آیا ہے جب پاکستان میں انگریزی زبان کے کئی چینلز جیسے جیو انگلش، ایکسپریس 24/7، اور ڈان نیوز (ابتدائی انگریزی فارمیٹ میں) ناظرین کی کم دلچسپی اور اردو چینلز کے غالب اثر کی وجہ سے بند کر دیے گئے تھے۔
تاہم حالیہ دنوں میں اس میدان میں نئی جان پڑتی نظر آ رہی ہے۔ اطلاعات ہیں کہ پاکستان ٹیلی ویژن (پی ٹی وی) بھی جلد ہی اپنا انگریزی چینل لانچ کرنے کا ارادہ رکھتا ہے۔
ایشیا ون خود کو عالمی معیار کے ساتھ ڈیجیٹل سطح پر ایک منفرد پوزیشن میں لانے کا دعویٰ کر رہا ہے۔ یہ غیر ملکی ٹیلنٹ اور نئے برانڈنگ نظریے پر انحصار کر رہا ہے۔ اب دیکھنا یہ ہے کہ کیا یہ چینل وہ کامیابی حاصل کر سکے گا جس سے ماضی کے منصوبے محروم رہے؟
