LAHORE—The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has announced the results of its elections, Afzal Butt being elected president, Arshad Ansari secretary general, and Lala Asad Pathan secretary finance, all three elected unopposed.
During a three-day biennial delegates meeting (BDM), attended by many journalists, the delegates demanded the right of association, which is their fundamental right. They underlined the missing service structure that doesn’t allow journalists to realize their potential, pointed out the absence of law for electronic media reporters, and suggested legislation and worker appreciation awards, among other things.
Journalists from small cities and remote areas said they faced large-scale retrenchment and substantial pay cuts.
