Police register case against senator for assaulting rights activist on TV
A case has been registered against JUIF Senator Hafiz Hamdullah for allegedly assaulting rights activist Marvi Sirmed on a TV show. The incident raised concerns about the treatment of activists in media discussions.

ISLAMABAD -  Islamabad Police Tuesday registered a case against JUIF Senator Hafiz Hamdullah for assaulting rights activist Marvi Sirmed in a television talk show.

The case was registered by Kohsar Police Station in F-7 under Sections 506 and 354. The incident happened during the recording of a program '10pm with Nadia Mirza' on NewsOne Television last week.

Police had been dilly dallying in registering an FIR after Sirmed filed an application a few days ago saying Hamdullah maligned her character and assaulted her besides using vulgar language and threatening her of dire consequences.

She had also asked Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to intervene and tell Islamabad Police to register FIR against Hamdullah.
