PFUJ dedicates Press Freedom Day to Dawn
The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists has dedicated Press Freedom Day to Dawn for its commitment to journalism. Rallies in solidarity will take place nationwide as a response to government pressure on the media.

ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has dedicated the Press Freedom Day (May 3) to Dawn for upholding the principles of journalism and refusing to succumb to any government pressure to reveal the source of its story.

The Press Freedom Day is observed all over the world on May 3 to raise awareness of the importance of the freedom of the press and remind governments of their duty to respect and uphold the right to freedom of expression.

A PFUJ press release said journalists across the country will be holding rallies outside the Dawn offices to express solidarity with colleagues working in that organization.

Dawn is still under threat of “disciplinary action”, as directed by the government to All Pakistan Newspaper Society (APNS). PFUJ has already rejected this so-called call for action.

Rallies/protests will be In Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Sukkur, Hyderabad, Gujranwala, Multan, Rahimyar Khan, Peshawar, and Quetta.
