KARACHI: Eminent journalist M. A. Majid, a former staff member of Dawn died in Karachi Thursday following a long illness. He was 79.
According to a report in Dawn Friday, Majid joined the newspaper on July 1, 1955 as an assistant editor and remained associated with the organization for 53 years. He retired on March 31, 2008.
The paper said he was one of the most efficient op-ed editors in the history of Pakistani journalism. He also wrote insightful editorials and opinion pieces.
His funeral prayers were to be offered Friday at the Gizri Graveyard. Majid is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
