Armed PPP men attack Larkana Press Club

LARKANA – A group of armed men reportedly belonging to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) attacked the Larkana Press Club Tuesday, damaging property and warning journalists not to cover any candidate contesting the by-elections against Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

The News reported Sindh Home Minister Suhail Anwar Siyal as saying it was an operation against the club’s office-bearers, conducted because of the negative projection of development projects in Larkana.

The home minister claimed Larkana was the center of PPP and no negative reporting would be allowed in the district.

Later, the police and the local administration sealed the press club. The News however did not say if any journalist was hurt.

This was the first attack in Pakistan targeting a press club. Last year there were two.
